Sale discussions for historic Mayo hotel nearing conclusion

DISCUSSIONS over the sale of the former Imperial Hotel in Castlebar to a boutique hotel chain are ongoing.

However, an announcement is expected in the near future.

Councillor Cyril Burke queried council management about the status of the sale of the historic building.

Mayo County Council received an offer from a leading boutique hotel chain for the building, which it intends to renovate in a major investment, at the end of last summer.

The property had previously been earmarked for transformation into an innovation hub.

Councillor Burke said the hotel development would be great to see for tourism in the county town.

Municipal district head Iarla Moran said discussions are in progress.

“I expect you will see something in the next short while,” he told a Castlebar Municipal District meeting.
