New Mayo bridge over N17 opening

Update: Since this article was published this morning, Mayo County Council has announced that the bridge has opened today

THE new bridge over the N17 at Lisduff in Claremorris is set to open.

The news was confirmed to local councillors at a Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District meeting this week.

It will open in the next few weeks to the general public, members were told, with an official opening event some time later in March or April.

Councillor Richard Finn welcomed the update and complimented all involved in delivering one of the fastest projects he had ever seen done.

It was turning out to be fantastic but he had one request - lighting at the junction.

He understood environmental reasons around lighting policy but felt health and safety should come first.

It is a dark area at night, he said, and he felt they will end up with issues.
