Swinford AC's Michaela Walsh is no stranger to the podium.

Mayo Young Sports Stars: Another outstanding year for a regular winner

Swinford athlete Michaela Walsh had another outstanding year in 2022.

January and February saw her win gold and break records at the Irish University Indoor Championships, the AAI Indoor Games and the National Senior Indoor Championships, the highest level of athletics in Ireland.

In April, she won gold in shot put and hammer at the Irish University Outdoor Championships and set new DCU records, while in May, she won gold in the shot put in the AAI Outdoor Games.

Michaela went on to represent Ireland at the Bedford International Games in June, winning gold in the shot put. The following month, she took home more golds in hammer and shot put at the National Senior Outdoor Championships, taking her tally to 14 national senior titles.

She capped off a brilliant season when she travelled to Portugal to represent her country and won silver in the hammer and bronze in the shot put.

At the end of the year, she was crowned Swinford AC Athlete of the Year for the 15th consecutive year.

They will receive their awards at The Connaught Telegraph Mayo Young Sports Stars of the Year 2022 ceremony this Friday in Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar.
