Campervan facilities removed from north Mayo docks plan

IMPROVEMENT works at the docks in Belmullet will not include parking and services for campervans.

They were included in a planning proposal put out for public consultation by Mayo County Council, with a number of submissions received that the location was not suitable.

The proposal also included improvements to the public realm and amenity of the docks generally, with better pedestrian access to Barrack Street and Carter Square in the town.

The part 8 planning application was approved at the monthly Westport-Belmullet Municipal District meeting, held in Belmullet. However local Councillors Gerry Coyle and Sean Carey proposed changes - there is to be no camper parking or charging points, and waste disposal is to be moved to an agreed spot.

Consultation will continue, said Councillor Coyle, while his colleague said they had come to a compromise which he hoped will satisfy everyone.
