€35,000 to update community walking tracks at two Mayo GAA grounds

FUNDING of €35,000 has been allocated to two Mayo GAA clubs to upgrade their community walking tracks.

The funding, which has been allocated to Achill and Garrymore GAA clubs, will enable upgrades such as lighting and improved surfaces, Deputy Alan Dillon has confirmed.

A total of €25,000 has been allocated to Achill GAA while €10,000 has been granted to Garrymore GAA.

Said Deputy Dillon: “These upgrades will help our clubs to empower people to stay active all year round by creating safe and inclusive spaces for people of all ages and mobilities.

“They play an invaluable role in fostering social connections in Mayo and by expanding access to their facilities they are helping to improve the health and wellbeing of everyone who uses them.

“I’d like to commend Achill and Garrymore GAA clubs and all clubs across Mayo for their wonderful contribution to their communities and I want to thank the GAA for the significant work involved in the process.”

Deputy Dillon said this once off national funding of €815,000 provided by Healthy Ireland is designed to make community walking tracks located on GAA grounds more accessible to more people.
