Big day for Conn Rangers as they head into Connacht Shield final

SOLAR 21 Park, Milebush, Castlebar will play hosts on Sunday to not one Galway-Mayo provincial decider, but two.

At 12 p.m. tomorrow, Conn Rangers of north Mayo will face off against Galwegians Knocknacarra in the Connacht Junior Shield final.

It’s a testament to the growth of the club from Mount Falcon, who now have three adult men's teams currently playing across the Mayo League.

Rangers are not going into the game to take part, however, and they enter this encounter with impressive Super League form behind them.

Currently they sit in third place, six points off joint leaders Ballina Town and Castlebar Celtic.

Conn Rangers enter this weekend's Connacht Shield final in fine scoring form too, registering 24 goals in their previous seven fixtures across all competitions, with P.J. Gilmartin in fine form in front of goal.

Their only loss in that run came on Sunday against fellow Connacht finalists, Castlebar Celtic, a game that ended in a disappointing 2-1 defeat for the Knockmore men.

A tough, resilient and spirited north Mayo side will nevertheless go into battle on Sunday aiming to etch folklore for the idyllic club.

They will encounter stern Galway opposition in Knocknacarra FC.

The city-based side boasts one of the largest memberships in the province, although for now the men's team occupies the lower half of Galway FA’s second tier.

A strong club at the underage level due to its colossal catchment area, on paper it is David v Goliath but in reality Conn Rangers have more than enough attacking quality to bring the shield home to Knockmore on Sunday.
