New fast ferry to Mayo island launched

INISHTURK has a new fast ferry service.

Inishturk Passenger Ferry has launched a new service with a journey time of 25 minutes from the mainland to the island.

Clare Island-based O'Grady Ferries are operating the new service to the island, which launched last Thursday, with two boats operating on the route.

The well-known Pirate Queen takes 48 minutes to travel from Roonagh Pier outside Louisburgh to Inishturk.

Their company's new boat, Whispering Hope, takes just 25 minutes to complete the journey - the fastest ferry to ever service Inishturk as part of the subsidy service.

The first passengers travelled with them on Thursday.
