Mayo entertainers feature in new music series on TG4
A new music programme featuring the cream of entertainers from the Wild Atlantic Way will broadcast on TG4 next Sunday (June 18) at 8.30 p.m.
Wild Atlantic Way: A Musical Journey features traditional musicians, dancers, singers and folk groups from Mayo, Leitrim, Galway and Sligo.
The shows were recorded in the TF Royal Theatre, Castlebar, and are presented by Henry McGlade of TV Ireland and Eibhlín Ní Chonghaile of TG4.
The second programme in the series on Sunday next features some of Mayo’s best-known musicians, singers and dancers, including top trad group Ragús (Ballina, Foxford), the Murphy Sisters folk group of Claremorris, and the Tiernan Family ballad/trad group of Achill Island.
The episode will also see performances from The Mayo Pipers (Castlebar), Billow Wood contemporary folk group (Ballina) and the Dave Munnelly Duo (Belmullet).
Atlantic Rhythm dance troupe (Crossmolina) and sean-nós dancer Tommy Stenson (Swinford) are also in this episode.
This Mayo focused episode will be repeated on Wednesday, June 21, at 7.30 p.m.
Some wonderful entertainers from Co. Leitrim feature on Wild Atlantic Way: A Musical Journey on TG4 the following week (Sunday, June 25), while the final show in the series on Sunday, July 2, features some fantastic Galway talent.
The shows were made possible through funding which the TF Royal Theatre received from the LLPPS funding scheme.
Micheál Ó Ciaraidh, a well-known Irish broadcaster, produced the shows, with lighting and sound provided by Frankie McDonald, of Castlebar.
