North Mayo road improvement works to start this year

BELMULLET-BASED Councillor Sean Carey has welcomed the approval of road alignment and improvement works on the R313 regional road from Belmullet to Bangor Erris at Glencastle.

Works are due to start on the project later this year.

At a Westport-Belmullet Municipal District meeting in July, Part 8 planning for the project was proposed by Councillor Sean Carey, seconded by Councillor Gerry Coyle and supported by all councillors.

Said Councillor Carey: “Since I was elected to Mayo County Council I have constantly highlighted the narrow bridge and this dangerous stretch at Glencastle on the Belmullet to Bangor road. I am pleased the works can now go for tender and I’ve been informed the work will commence later this year.

“I would like to thank all the staff in Mayo County Council who assisted in progressing this project. I extend a special word of thanks to the land owners for their cooperation and I look forward to the completion of this much needed work.”
