East Mayo water connection to go to tender in coming weeks

PROGRESS is being made on delivering a new water supply to a rural community in east Mayo.

For over a decade, 24 home owners on the Lisduff/Cleragh scheme outside Kiltimagh have been fighting to get connected to the local public water supply.

Now, local Councillor Adrian Forkan has confirmed that the scheme is to go to tender in the coming weeks.

Irish Water would not allow new connections to the Kiltimagh public water scheme until the treatment plant was upgraded as it was at capacity.

Councillor Forkan said works at the plant have now been completed and the village scheme can now progress to tender in the coming weeks.

He commented: “The householders and farmers on the Lisduff/Cleragh scheme have been in limbo for too long. This is very welcome news and I will continue to work with all the stakeholders on its delivery.”

Uisce Eireann confirmed: ‘Works on the upgrade of Kiltimagh water treatment plant are complete and Uisce Éireann is in a position to give a positive response to a connection application from Clearagh CWC.

‘Uisce Éireann understand that the Rural Water Section of Mayo County Council has appointed consultants to design the proposed Cleragh water mains network. The tender and award process for a contractor to install the required pipe network shall be managed by the Rural Water Section of the local authority.

‘Uisce Eireann has advised the Rural Water Section and the consultant to submit a connection application as soon as possible with a view to progressing the network extension works required to facilitate the proposed scheme.

‘Once a detailed design has been finalised and a proposed accredited contractor appointed, Uisce Éireann will work with the Rural Water Section to ensure a connection can be facilitated without delay.’
