Master plan for Westport's Roman Island

COUNCILLORS in Westport have approved the outline of a master plan for Roman Island at The Quay.

It includes areas for tourism/amenity, sports and recreation, a picnic area, a lido and urban beach, nature reserve, perimeter loop walk and boat parking/summer car park area.

The plan will be subject to environmental reports but should be broadly along the lines of the map published, says Councillor Peter Flynn.

Improvement works nearing completion at Westport Quay have been welcomed by Councillor Flynn.

Shelters at The Point are nearly completed and bollards have been put in place nearby so people can walk unimpeded around the pond at the Quay area.

Said Councillor Flynn: “It's an amazing amenity area to have in the heart of our town. Progress has been slow but we are heading in the right direction.”
