Mayo's Tertulia among Bookshop of the Year finalists

A MAYO bookshop is among the British Book Awards 2024 Independent Bookshop of the Year awards finalists.

Independent bookshops from across the United Kingdom and Ireland continue to thrive with creative, specialist and community-centred activities boosting sales in the face of the cost-of-living and business-rates crises.

In the largest cohort yet, 77 independent bookshops have been selected across nine different regions and countries as finalists for The British Book Awards 2024 Small Press of the Year.

The island of Ireland finalists include Tertulia Bookshop, which is based at Westport Quay.

The bookshops will compete to win their region first, which will be announced on March 12, before contending for the overall prize, announced at The British Book Awards winner ceremony at Grosvenor House in May.

Tertulia was set up in 2019 with a mission to make a positive contribution to the way the world thinks. Since then the bookshop has become a 'destination', with many repeat customers popping in on visits to Westport.
