Mayo's Hugh Armstrong gears up for World Cross Country Championships

Mayo's own Hugh Armstrong is primed for the challenge of a lifetime as he prepares to compete at the World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade.

Hailing from Knockmore in north Mayo, an area steeped in the tradition of cross country running, Armstrong's journey to the global stage has been marked by resilience after returning from injury setbacks and powerful determination.

Despite multiple stress fractures in recent years, Armstrong's commitment to his sport has seen him power through.

Under the guidance of coach Feidhlim Kelly, he's honed his training regimen, balancing a full-time job as an accountant with rigorous preparation for the gruelling 10km race in Belgrade, Serbia.

Armstrong's dedication to representing Ireland on the international stage is palpable, and he'll be joined by fellow countryman Keelan Kilrehill from Sligo in Belgrade.
