Teenager who died in Mayo road tragedy is named locally

The pedestrian who died after being struck by a car on the N17 near Claremorris last Saturday night has been named locally.

Teenager Vikaris Gudaitis (17) was fatally injured in the incident in the townland of Barnacarroll.

A student of St Colman’s College in Claremorris, tributes are being paid to him on social media.

Originally from Lithuania, Vikaris and his family have lived in the south Mayo community for many years.

His tragic death has evoked a tremendous sense of loss and sorrow.

Gardaí are continuing their investigations into the matter.

The accident happened less than one kilometre from where three members of the Bowden family, Moycullen. died in a collision last Tuesday.
