Ballina Town make winning return to Mayo Women's League

BALLINA Town have made a winning return to the Mayo Women's League.

For the first time in almost a decade, the club fielded an adult women's team on Friday evening and they got their Division 1 campaign off to a winning start away to Crossmolina.

In the weekend's only senior fixture, Town had to recover from conceding a very early goal to their hosts and neighbours before settling and going on to secure a 4-1 victory.

Niamh Maughan had the ball in the Ballina net in the first minute but Town weren't rattled and responded via Kayla Salami, who had the first of her two goals of the evening on five minutes. Maria O'Brien followed with another on 11 minutes.

Both were to go on to net a further score each as Ballina ran out 4-1 winners in a real team effort that sees their return to the league off to a very positive start.

ANGELA HEARST CUP

The Mayo Angela Hearst Cup team will have their opening game of the competition away to Eastern Women's Football League on the weekend of May 4/5.

The squad will be officially announced during the coming week.
