Mayo candle company shines at Siamsa Sraide Festival
A Westport-based candle company, Léan, is gaining attention for its beautifully crafted candles recently featured at the Swinford Siamsa Sraide Street Festival.
Writer Thomas Purdy specially commissioned the candles as a unique memento for his presentation during the event.
The presentation, which took place at the annual east Mayo festival, focused on the rich heritage of this county’s ancestors and the deep roots of Irish culture.
Purdy’s speech resonated with many, touching on the various ways people connect with their Irish identity, whether they are members of the Irish diaspora or native-born citizens.
The candles, designed to complement this theme, were an integral part of the experience, offering attendees a tangible connection to their heritage.
"I was honoured to be involved in this commissioned piece," said Melissa Morley, the owner of the candle company, Léan. "Creating something that represents our ancestors and Irish roots was a meaningful project for me.
Morley continued, "I hope everyone enjoys their new candles in their new home."
Léan Candle, which operates out of Westport, has been steadily growing in popularity, known for its unique and high-quality products. This latest project marks another milestone for the company as it continues to build its reputation both locally and beyond.
With 50 candles handcrafted specifically for the festival, each one carries with it a piece of Irish history, making them a cherished keepsake for those who attended.
The candles not only symbolise the strength of the global Mayo community but also reflect the connection people have to their Irish heritage, no matter where in the world they now call home.
