Bonniconlon and Kilcommon play out a stalemate in Mayo’s junior county final

HONOURS even at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park as Kilcommon and Bonniconlon played out a tense 2:6 to 1:9 affair in the junior county final.
They’ll have it all to do once again next weekend after two goals from Justin Healy weren’t enough to end years of hurt for a youthful Kilcommon outfit.
Bonniconlon started brightest with Sean Neary and James Harrington quick out the traps, it was Harrington who got the final touch to get the ball under Kian Gallagher in the Kilcommon net and all the wind in the world was blowing toward the Ox Mountains.
Kilcommon looked dejected and failed to get their first score until 8 minutes from the end of the first half, Eoghan McGrath broke the deadlock followed by Healy’s first goal of the game.
The turning point was a red card for Bonniconlon wing-forward Sean Neary, he stopped a swift Kilcommon attack and saw a second yellow. Swaying the momentum toward Kilcommon for the first time in the clash.
The second half ignited in favour of the Glenamoy men, Healy once again netting followed by a flurry of scores from Jack Healy and Derek Moran, Kilcommon looked home and hosed.
However, a lapse in concentration allowed Bonniconlon to come back and equalise. A powerful performance form midfielder Jonathon Lavelle and contributions from substitute David Moran were key in bringing the clash to a replay.
