Mayo Councillor shuns Seanad to prioritise local constituents and business

Fine Gael’s Cyril Burke has announced he will not be contesting the upcoming Seanad election, opting instead to focus on his role within the Castlebar Municipal District and his growing property business.

Amid ongoing speculation that his brother, Senator Paddy Burke, may not seek re-election to the Seanad, Cllr Cyril Burke confirmed he has no plans to throw his hat into the ring.

Fresh from his success in the recent local elections, Cllr Burke stated that his priority remains serving the constituents who entrusted him with their vote. Additionally, he intends to devote more attention to his business, “DNG Cyril Burke”, located on Linenhall Street, Castlebar.

The property firm, which he opened two years ago, has experienced strong growth, driven by a “buoyant housing market”.

Speaking on his decision, Cllr Burke stated, “The business is going very well for me at the moment, and there are a lot of exciting plans in progress for housing developments in the area. I want to play my part in ensuring these badly needed homes are delivered for the people of Castlebar and the surrounding areas.”

Cllr Burke’s decision not to contest the Seanad leaves open questions about whether Senator Paddy Burke will seek re-election, though no official announcement has been made on that front.
