Mayo County Council issues warning over bathing water quality at popular spots

Mayo County Council has issued Prior Warning Notices for several popular bathing locations across the county ahead of the weekend, citing concerns over water quality due to forecasted rainfall.

The warnings, released this morning, apply to numerous beaches and swimming areas where heavy rain may impact bathing water quality.

Affected locations include:

Westport Area: Old Head, Carrowmore, Clare Island, Carrowniskey, Silver Strand, and The Point, Westport.

Achill Area: Dugort and Dooega.

Belmullet Area: Shore Road Bathing Area, Belmullet Tidal Pool, and Portacloy.

Castlebar Area: Lough Lannagh

The council advises the public to take note of the warnings before planning swimming or water-based activities in these areas over the weekend.
