South Mayo town has a simply brilliant summer festival lined up

BALLINROBE will be a hive of activity from July 19 to 27 as the ever popular Ballinrobe Festival takes place in the bustling south Mayo town.
The official launch took place in Fitzpatrick’s (Inch’s) Bar, Main Street, where a vast array of events were announced that will certainly keep the people entertained over what will hopefully be a sun-splashed week.
One act that is sure to generate a big attendance is Live Forever, the Oasis tribute band, and they are set to perform in Abbey Street on July 26.
Some of the highlights during the nine days include: A Bruce Springsteen tribute act in Cornmarket on July 19; Mike Denver in the marquee at Ballinrobe Racecourse, July 22; traditional bands Cailíní Lua, and Ruaile Buaile, Ballinrobe Racecourse, July 25; Live Forever Oasis tribute band at Beat on the Street, Abbey Street, July 26; and the Queen of the Lakes Pageant, July 27.
Ballinrobe Festival Committee member Pat Donnellan was pleased with the official launch and said that commencing the festival in Cornmarket is a throwback to previous years.
“The festival will kick-off on Saturday, July 19, with an open air Bruce Springsteen tribute act concert in Cornmarket and this is a change from previous years.
Commencing the festival in Cornmarket is a throwback to previous years and the beat on the street concerts in Cornmarket, which were last held there roughly 20 years ago.
“On Sunday, July 20, a Tradfest will take place, also in Cornmarket, and there will be various activities taking place there throughout the day along with music in the evening.
“There will be a family day at the Ballinrobe Races on Monday, July 21, followed up by the Race Dance on Tuesday night with Mike Denver.
“There will also be a cinema night on Thursday, July 24, hosted by Robe Cinema in the Ballinrobe Library.”
Plenty of activities for all the family take place during the week and it is hoped that a funfair may also be held in the town.
Heritage walks and talks are scheduled as well as a family sports day.
