Mayo town is now eligible for affordable housing scheme

Senator Mark Duffy is delighted to announce that Ballina is now eligible for an affordable housing scheme.

It comes after much campaigning, lobbying and a KPMG report which analysed the market needs.

Senator Duffy said:

“Housing has been my number one objective since being elected and each and every day I meet people struggling to get their forever home because of lack of supply and market failure.

The eligibility for a scheme like this means that a new generation of people locked out of the market will have an opportunity to buy their home at a discounted price.

I look forward to advancing this further to make sure that progress moves swiftly, and we deliver these homes as soon as possible.”

The announcement comes after Senator Duffy announced the breaking of ground on multiple housing projects in Ballina, with 120 homes due to get under way in the coming months.

Mayo County Council will now update expressions of interest for developers at which point the scheme will formally open.
