Mayo man elected regional chair for SCSI west/northwest region
Mayo native David Rowe has been elected chairperson of the West and North West Regional Committee of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI).
Dating back to 1895, SCSI is the independent professional body for chartered surveyors working and practicing in Ireland, in partnership with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors being an internationally recognised qualification with a mark of excellence.
The SCSI is the leading body of qualified professionals typically employed in the construction, land and property sector in Ireland.
The role of chair brings with it the responsibility of engaging many of the chartered property, land and construction surveyors who operate in the west and northwest region, and promoting the profession itself from talking with young students seeking to embark on a career within the sector to assisting property graduates through the professional competencies on the pathway to becoming chartered.
The objectives of the committee are to promote, encourage and build on the network of surveyors that provide a much-needed professional service in the western region.
Ballina man David said that becoming a chartered surveyor has served him well, providing key fundamentals that have shaped the property professional he is today in the ability to provide expert technical advice in guiding and supporting clients or organisations on property matters.
David made the move to the west of Ireland over five years ago having carved out of career in the area of property surveying which spans over 20 years, working in a number of multidisciplined roles within national as well as international real estate firms, providing a range of property services in the commercial sector from general agency, disposals/acquisitions, professional services and valuations through to asset management.
He said: “Surveying is such an interesting but challenging profession. The day-to-day dynamics mean that no two days are the same. The career path I chose did take many different turns, but it is one I would encourage any young and hard-working student to explore as it takes account of many different attributes, not all of which are academic driven.”
In taking up the role of chair of the west/northwest region, David stated: “It is an honour to be elected to this position, and I look forward to meeting with other surveyors in different sectors of the organisation throughout the west while continuing to build on the foundations already set by peers and fellow members of the surveying world in the west of Ireland.”
In taking on the role of chair, David will also represent the western region on the SCSI council working in conjunction with the RICS.
