IFA to meet with Mayo councillors over Bord Bia debacle

Mayo IFA is continuing to call for the resignation of Bord Bia chairman Larry Murrin, with the county executive inviting all councillors in Mayo to open information meetings to cover the four municipal areas in the county.

Mayo IFA county chairman John Lynskey said: “It seems that the main political parties are not being told the full truth on this matter and IFA are asking the county councillors to attend an open information meeting in their area on the matter.”

The first of these meetings will take place on Monday, March 2, in the Park Hotel, Kiltimagh, and will cover the municipal areas of Ballina and Claremorris/Swinford.

The second meeting will take place on Thursday, March 5, and in Westport Woods Hotel to cover the municipal areas of Castlebar and Westport/Belmullet.

Mr. Lynskey said that the Red C poll in last Sunday's Business Post showed clearly that the vast majority of the public want Larry Murrin removed as chairman of Bord Bia.

Accountability is paramount and at present farmers across the entire country have lost confidence in Bord Bia under its current chairman, he said.

The Minister for Agriculture has the power to remove Mr. Murrin, say the IFA, but will not do what the will of the people are demanding.

Both meetings are scheduled for an 8 p.m. start.
