Call for engagement with IDA to replace 50 jobs lost in Mayo

MAYO'S ministers must engage with the IDA to find replacement employment in a Claremorris factory that closed recently with the loss of 50 jobs.

If those jobs were lost in Dublin or other large cities there would be a 'great hullabaloo', said Councillor Richard Finn, but smaller areas are forgotten.

He was speaking at a council meeting following the closure of the Cosmetic Creations business in Claremorris, highlighting the impact on the employees, families and wider community.

Councillor Finn called on the two ministers in the county to approach the IDA to find alternative employment for those people, preferably in the same factory, and also ensure they get immediate supports.

The private sector and employers are taxed to oblivion, commented Councillor Finn, while the public sector seems to 'grow like a weed'.

He hoped our elected representatives in the Dáil will come on board and find a replacement factory and jobs.
