Man in Mayo court for verbally abusing garda and stealing from store
A man has been fined for verbally abusing gardaí.
Zoltan Kocsis, aged 34, Manulla, Castlebar, pleaded guilty at Ballina District Court to theft and to using threatening or abusive language.
The court was told that gardaí received a report of man acting abusively towards a member of staff at Treasury Casino, Castlebar on January 1st last.
The man, Kocsis, told a staff member that he would wait for him outside and when approached by gardaí, he said: “I pay your wages, you listen to me.”
While being placed in handcuffs, Kocsis told the arresting garda: "F**k off, you c**t. You’re trying to plant stuff on me, I know what you’re like.”
On February 17 last, CCTV at Tesco in Ballina detected a male stealing four cans of Buzzballz Cocktails.
Kocsis was identified as the culprit and three stolen t-shirts from Penney’s, valued at €35, were also found in his possession. The alcohol was not recovered.
Kocsis has eight previous convictions.
Solicitor Peter Loftus said his client accepts he was out of order.
Judge Vincent Deane imposed a fine of €400.
