Inequality in social housing income limits raised by Mayo councillor

THE inequality of income thresholds to qualify for social housing has been highlighted by Councillor Michael Kilcoyne.

If you live on the Mayo side of Ballindine, the limit is €30,000. Cross the border into Galway and it's €35,000, he highlighted.

Councillor Kilcoyne has asked Mayo County Council to write to the Minister for Housing about why this is so.

The income limits are set by government, he pointed out at a municipal district meeting.

Two working people on minimum wage are over the limit for a social home, he highlighted.
