Mayo greenway timeline questioned as land owners receive survey letters
QUESTIONS are being asked about the timeline for the proposed Belclare-Murrisk greenway after landowners received letters about surveys taking place on their properties.
They have been told the surveys will be completed by the end of the year.
The information led Councillor Brendan Mulroy to ask: “What is going on with that greenway?”
He raised the matter at the monthly municipal district meeting having asked on previous occasions when they would have information before them on the preferred route option and design.
They were told a year ago they'd have a preferred route before them. Yet, he asked, how could there be a preferred route if there had been no survey.
Councillor Mulroy told the meeting: “There's something us elected members are not being told. It's not good.”
He was told the matter will be brought back to the national roads design office to seek an update for the members.
Councillor Peter Flynn commented that the communication process around the project has been frayed.
Registered letters went out and they didn't know about it and it would be helpful if they were kept informed at every step of the process, so if a concerned land owner contacts them, they know what's going on.
