May start for age-friendly apartments project in Mayo town

EIGHTEEN age-friendly apartments should be completed in Westport by the end of summer 2027.

They are part of the overall redevelopment of the former convent site on Altamount Street.

Mayo County Council has agreed a 99-year lease with housing agency Tuath to deliver the social housing units. Local councillors approved the lease when it came before a Westport-Belmullet Municipal District meeting.

It is intended to be on site in May, with completion set for August 2027.

Councillor Brendan Mulroy hailed it as 'fantastic news for the area'.

It is really positive, agreed Councillor Peter Flynn, cathaoirleach, who praised Carey Construction on the progress they have made to date on the overall regeneration project at the site.
