Free heart health check coming to Mayo town

The Irish Heart Foundation's Mobile Health Unit will visit Castlebar next week, offering free heart health checks to members of the public.

The unit will be parked at Hopkins Road, Knockacroghery, on Wednesday, April 15, from 10am to 4.45pm.

Visitors can have their blood pressure and pulse checked as part of an effort to promote early detection of hypertension, high blood pressure, a leading cause of cardiovascular disease.

The checks can also detect atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat that can lead to serious health complications.

Expert nurses will be on hand to provide lifestyle advice and information on maintaining heart health.

The Mobile Health Unit offers up to 10,000 free blood pressure checks annually across communities throughout Ireland, helping to identify individuals who may be unaware they have hypertension.
