1,400 Mayo TY students to attend hard-hitting road safety event today
SOME 1,400 students from Mayo will attend the AXA Roadsafe Roadshow at the TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar today.
Now in its 19th year, the roadshow is targeted at transition year students across Ireland.
Young drivers are more likely to be involved in road traffic collisions, and this event aims to raise awareness of road safety and the dangers of speeding and distraction, highlighting the consequences of these actions while encouraging safer driving habits.
Organised in partnership with Mayo County Council, An Garda Síochána and local emergency services, the AXA Roadsafe Roadshow delivers a powerful and emotional experience.
It recreates a night out that ends in tragedy, featuring first-hand accounts from first responders and bereaved families, including Hayley Coleman, who lost her best friend in an accident, and Myles O’Brien, a survivor of a road traffic collision where speed and inexperience caused him to lose control of his motorbike and end up in a wheelchair for life.
