Anger over loss of bus stop in remote Mayo village without notice
The village of Dooagh on Achill Island has lost its bus stop.
Now a campaign has been launched by the Dooagh Day Facebook page to have it restored.
Kate O'Malley wrote: "How is this acceptable for our community?
"On a week where there has already been so much upheaval and with ministers telling people to 'get the bus', the bus service in Dooagh has been stopped without any notice.
"Yet the bus stop is STILL standing at Lourdies (public house), leaving locals and visitors waiting for a service that no longer exists.
"No announcement. No signage. No communication.
"People rely on this service every single day for work, appointments, and simply getting from Achill to Westport.
"To have it quietly removed like this, especially now, is not just inconvenient, it’s a bloody outrage.
"At the very least, there should be clear information provided to the public. Right now, it feels like the community has been completely left in the dark.
"This needs to be addressed properly and urgently.
"This is for our local community not to mention the busy tourist season that is quickly approaching."
Transport Infrastructure Ireland has stated it is a temporary measure until an alternative turning point can be arranged in Dooagh.
