Man returned for trial over incidents in Mayo county town
A Tubbercurry man has been sent forward for trial to the Circuit Court following an alleged violent incident in Castlebar involving assaults, attempted robbery and criminal damage.
Stephen McIntyre, of Meadowbrook, Tubbercurry, appeared before Castlebar District Court in relation to a number of charges arising from an incident at Boots, Castlebar, on October 24, 2025.
The charges before the court included two counts of assault causing harm, attempted robbery and criminal damage.
The court heard that the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed summary disposal on a plea of guilty in relation to attempted robbery, two counts of assault causing harm and criminal damage.
Solicitor Gary Mulchrone said the defence understood the matter was before the court for consideration of jurisdiction.
He noted that CCTV footage formed part of the evidence and said medical reports relating to the assault causing harm charges had been requested but had not yet been received.
McIntyre was arrested at 1.50 p.m. on the date in question by Garda Barry Walsh and taken to Castlebar Garda Station. He was later released under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act pending preparation of a file for the DPP.
Judge Sandra Murphy said she had viewed the CCTV footage and heard the facts outlined in court.
While noting that medical reports were not yet before the court, she said that, having considered the matter in its entirety, including the robbery and criminal damage allegations, she was refusing jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to May 20 for the service of the book of evidence.
McIntyre was remanded on continuing bail.
