Mayo County Council strategic arts plan is launched

Mayo County Council has adopted its Strategic Arts Plan 2026–2031 at a recent Council meeting. The plan sets out the local authority’s priorities for arts development over the next five years, focusing on supporting artists, strengthening arts infrastructure, increasing participation, and enhancing collaboration with community, cultural, education and national partners.

Developed by Mayo County Council Arts Service, the plan is informed by extensive public consultation with artists, arts organisations, community groups, young people, older people, and members of the public. It aligns with the Council’s Corporate Plan 2024–2029 and its role as a designated Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Champion.

The Strategic Arts Plan identifies five core objectives, and they are as follows: Supporting artists living and working in Mayo; developing and enhancing space for the arts; improving communication and awareness of arts activity and supports; increasing access and participation across all communities; strengthening collaboration across sectors.

The plan will be implemented through annual actions and reviewed at mid term to assess progress.
