West-based Woolow celebrate second RDS Award
WEST of Ireland wool bedding company Woolow has won a second RDS award for its environmental contribution.
Woolow Limited, based at Dunblaney, near Dunmore, won the Sustainable Rural Innovation Award at an event at the RDS Concert Hall as part of the Finding Common Ground Festival.
The award recognises those who have applied science and technology to help deliver the principles of climate-smart agriculture, from greater efficiency to reduced waste and increased profitability.
Replacing synthetic materials usually found in pillows with a natural option like wool, Woolow creates organic wool pillows from the sheep on their farm, in a 300-thread cotton casing, to improve quality of sleep and the planet. Their range has expanded to include duvets and mattress toppers.
Owner Michael Burke said “It is fantastic to be recognised for the work we do at Woolow. Sustainability and science are at the heart of what we do. Wool is an ancient, renewable resource which needs to be valued more.”
Woolow also won Sustainable Agri Start-Up at the RDS Awards in 2024.
The Royal Dublin Society (RDS), established in 1731, is a philanthropic organisation driving Ireland's economic and cultural progress. With a legacy of nearly 300 years, the RDS is known for its diverse programmes across agriculture, arts, industry, science, and enterprise.
