Funding for five Mayo groups improving water quality in communities

Minister Dara Calleary has welcomed funding from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage for five Mayo projects aimed at improving water quality across the county.

The funding has been awarded through the Community Water Development Fund and the Catchment Support Fund, both administered by the Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO) on behalf of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

“Minister James Bowne and Minister Christopher O’Sullivan have informed me that five Mayo based projects have been allocated funding to carry water improvement works.

"These are local community projects and play a significant role in maintaining and repairing local water systems."

The successful projects are as follows:

Phases 2 and 3 Carrowniskey and Bunowen €16,000.

East Corrib Alliance – establishment of riparian zone in the Black River catchment at Kilshanvy, Browne Island and Brackloon, €20,000.

Kiltimagh Amenity Park – riparian repair along the River Pollagh €9,000.

Lough Carra Catchment Association – community led baseline monitoring and pilot biochar project in a karst farm system €30,000.

One Westport for All – Carrowbeg your River, Carrowbeg Your Community €10,000.
