Mayo butchers scoops Connacht Best Burger of the Year award
A MAYO family butchers is celebrating after winning another top award.
Keane’s Meats in Newport was a winner in the Associated Craft Butchers of Ireland inaugural Burger & Kebab of the Year Competition 2026, held at the prestigious Ashdown Park Hotel.
This landmark event - the first of its kind - brought together the very best of Ireland’s craft butchery talent, showcasing exceptional creativity, skill, and innovation across both burger and kebab categories.
Keane’s Meats was named Best in Connacht for their 6oz Steak Burger.
And this award comes hot on the heels of Keane's winning Best Ribeye Steak in Connacht back in January at the National Steak Challenge in association with the Irish Craft Butchers.
The family business, in the heart of Newport, has a long tradition of excellence, with locally sourced meat and pride in offering customers quality produce.
Delighted with the double success, Shane Keane extended thanks to all their customers for their loyalty.
The competition saw entries from across the country prepared by acclaimed head chef Andrew O’Gorman and his expert culinary team. A panel of over 12 judges evaluated each entry on taste, presentation, originality, and overall appeal, resulting in an outstanding display of quality and craftsmanship.
Dozens of additional craft butchers from across Ireland were recognised across gold, silver and bronze categories, highlighting the depth of talent within the industry.
Speaking at the event, representatives from the Associated Craft Butchers of Ireland said: “This competition has exceeded all expectations in its first year. The quality, creativity, and dedication on display highlight the strength and future of craft butchery in Ireland.”
The competition marks the beginning of what is set to become a flagship annual event - celebrating excellence in Irish produce and craftsmanship while inspiring the next generation of butchers.
