Open call announced for Mayo gallery submissions
THE Linenhall Arts Centre is pleased to reveal details of its bi-annual open call for submissions to exhibit in the Linenhall’s Visual Arts Gallery.
This summer, the exhibition schedule for 2027 and 2028 will be curated.
Showcasing the work of Irish and international artists through solo and group exhibitions, which typically run over a five-week period, the primary objective of the Linenhall’s Visual Arts Gallery is to support new and ambitious work, while fostering meaningful dialogue between audiences, artists at all careers stages and community. Artist talks and public engagement also give artists opportunities to share insights into their practice, while enhancing audience engagement and understanding.
Alice Maher, Joanna Hopkins, Bryan Gerard Duffy, Nuala Clarke and new member Conor O’Grady form the Linenhall gallery’s selection committee - a peer review panel of independent artists who choose the visual art gallery programme, alongside Linenhall executive director, and panel chairperson, Bernadette Greenan.
Submissions will be accepted from Monday, May 4, to Friday, June 26, at 5 p.m. The panel will select works for exhibition at the end of July 2026, with the successful artists to be contacted in August 2026.
Exhibition proposals require submission to Bernadette Greenan, by email: director@thelinenhall.com. Submissions received after the deadline of June 26 will not be considered in the current round.
Artists submitting a proposal are required to provide an artist statement and exhibition proposal among other items, the full details of which can be found at thelinenhall.com.
Support provided by the Linenhall for exhibiting artists include an artists fee of €850 per exhibition; the services of a technician/installer to assist with installation; insurance cover; marketing and publicity; an opening reception and an optional artist talk on the closing day (additional fee provided).
Proposals are assessed on the basis of artistic quality, clarity of concept, relevance to the gallery’s programme, benefit to the artist’s practice and the feasibility of realisation, within the available space and resources.
Committed to treating all artists fairly and respectfully, the Linenhall Visual Arts Gallery continually enhances the quality and ambition of work presented to its diverse audiences. Actively supporting equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), submissions from artists of all backgrounds are welcomed.
As a core part of the Linenhall’s artistic programme and a significant cultural platform in County Mayo and the wider Connacht region, the gallery connects artists and audiences, locally and beyond, striving to ensure accessibility, and reflect a broad range of perspectives and lived experiences.
A schools programme also accompanies each exhibition, with local schools invited to visit and participate in workshops, engaging with the exhibition’s themes, supporting deeper learning and creative interaction within the locale.
