Popular Mayo mountain coastal trail reopens to public
PART of a popular mountain coastal trail is reopening to the public a year after it was destroyed by a fire.
The first phase of the restoration work on the Claggan Mountain Coastal Trail is now complete, the Wild Nephin National Park has confirmed.
It will be available for the public to enjoy this bank holiday weekend.
The trail welcomed thousands of visitors every year until it was destroyed by a fire in April 2025.
As well as the trail, visitors can also enjoy a number of free family-friendly events that are taking place at the Ballycroy Visitor Centre and neighbouring Ballycroy Community Centre over the May bank holiday. Events kick off today (Saturday) as they celebrate Mayo Day, while on Sunday and Monday the 10th birthday of the Mayo Dark Sky Park will be celebrated.
