Mayo face Galway in TG4 Connacht LGFA senior final

Old rivals Mayo and Galway clash in the TG4 Connacht LGFA senior final in Carrick-on-Shannon on Sunday afternoon. The game at Heartland Credit Union Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada will throw in at 3 p.m., and will be preceded by the intermediate decider between Leitrim and Roscommon at 1 p.m.

Galway are going for a third successive senior title, while Mayo – now under the management of Diane O'Hora – are chasing a first provincial crown since 2023.

Nine points separated the sides when they met in last year’s final but Mayo, who operated in Division 2 of the Lidl National League this year, will hope to close that gap.

Galway’s last competitive outing was a Lidl NFL Division 1 final loss to Cork in Limerick and they’ll want to rinse that defeat from their systems.

Meanwhile, Mayo’s last game resulted in a fine victory over Monaghan in round seven of the league, when they racked up 2-14 in an 11-point win.

Former skipper and TG4 All-Star Danielle Caldwell was injured in that game and is ruled out for this one.

The Mayo team, captained by Ella Brennan, will line out as follows: L. Brennan; L. Wallace, S. El Massry, M. Delaney; E. Brennan, L. Hanley, K. Brennan; A. Geraghty, H. Reape; S. Tuohy, F. McHale, A. Staunton; L. Cafferky, S. Walsh, S. Cafferky.

The Galway team is: L. O'Halloran; B. Quinn, L. Ward, K. Geraghty; H. Noone, N. Ward, C. Trill; N. Divilly, S. Divilly; O. Divilly, K. Slevin, L. Noone; E. Noone, L. Coen, A. Trill.

Galway won last year's final between the teams by 0-16 to 1-4 and it represented their 19th senior Connacht crown. Mayo's last Connacht title, in 2023, ended Galway's hopes of a five-in-a-row at the time.

Whatever happens on Sunday afternoon, both teams will progress to the TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship group stages in the weeks ahead.

The Connacht senior final between Mayo and Galway will be steamed live on the TG4 YouTube channel.
