First win of season for reigning Mayo Women's League Premier champions
Castlebar Town got their ambitions to retain their Premier Division title back on track with a first win of the season in the Eco-Powered Cabinets Mayo Women's League on Friday evening.
With two draws to date, they enjoyed a 5-2 win at home over Kilmore, recovering from an OG just two minutes in to steady the ship with a Leah Conway equaliser in the fourth minute.
Goals by Roisin Horkan, from the penalty spot, and a goal by Sarah Bright were added to with two from Louise Dowling late on - 80 and 87 minutes - to seal full points.
Swinford had a comfortable win against visitors Conn Rangers - 6-0 the final scoreline there. Emily Rowley accounted for two of the scores, with 16-year-old Izzy Duffy making a senior debut she'll remember by also getting on the score sheet.
Manulla, meanwhile, came away from Straide & Foxford with full points in a 1-2 result.
Katie Heaney had the only score of the first half, with Hannah Prendergast whipping home from the penalty spot on 77 minutes for the eventual winner after Fiona Doherty equalised for S&F within 10 minutes of the second half starting.
DIVISION ONE
Kiltimagh Knock United chalked up an emphatic 11-2 win over visitors Ballina Town.
Town showed battling determination after falling behind to three early goals, with goal-scorer Kayla Salami posing a threat throughout and Mollie Doherty a very assured presence.
However, KK's youngsters have brought some extra vim to their attack, with teenagers Mary Ann Ward and Viktoria Balik-Nowak on the score sheet along with Shona Mahon.
Killala came away from The Green with a 1-3 win over Ballinrobe Town.
Alva Munnelly had a goal and two assists, setting up Shauna Donnelly for a good finish in the 22nd minute and making it 2-0 herself on 72 minutes.
Town didn't miss their penalty this week, with Emily Jennings keeping the pressure on from the spot in the 76th minute. But the Killala response was quick, Ciara Kearney restoring their lead just three minutes later.
DIVISION TWO
Snugboro United continued their winning ways in Division Two - 0-3 winners away to Crossmolina.
'Boro held a 2-0 advantage at half-time courtesy of Aoibinn Conway, who struck a quarter of an hour in, and Alexi McDonnell, just before the break. And Jacinta Derrig got the assurance score in the 75th minute.
Achill Rovers and Glenhest Rovers couldn't be separated in a tough 1-1 encounter.
Milly Allen nicked the lead for Glenhest 27 minutes in, with Achill digging deep in the second half - Kiera Corrigan scoring a cracker from outside the box the reward for their hard work.
