Mayo Roscommon Hospice celebrates volunteers and welcomes new supporters
MAYO Roscommon Hospice Foundation is inviting anyone interested in volunteering to join a special Volunteer Celebration Day on Friday, May 15, at the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event, held ahead of National Volunteering Week, will honour the foundation's dedicated long-standing volunteers and support groups while warmly welcoming those who are curious about getting involved.
The day will include live music and dance from Pat Mulchrone, refreshments and an outside broadcast by Midwest Radio. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the foundation's CEO, board members, and wider community of volunteers and supporters, and to learn first-hand about the vital role volunteers play in delivering hospice care across Mayo and Roscommon.
With the National Sunflower Days fundraising campaign beginning in June, the event is a timely chance for new volunteers to get introduced to the foundation and find out how they can make a real difference in their local community.
Martina Jennings, CEO of Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, said: “Our volunteers are the heartbeat of everything we do at Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation. Their commitment, compassion, and time make an immeasurable difference, not just to the patients and families we support, but to the entire community. We are so proud to celebrate their incredible contribution ahead of National Volunteering Week, and to welcome the next generation of volunteers who will help us carry this work forward.
“With the upcoming opening of our Sunflower Children’s Hospice, the demand for our services has never been greater and neither has our need for passionate volunteers. Whether you can give a few hours a month or more, there is a place for you in our community.”
The Volunteer Celebration Day is open to all, whether you are a long-time supporter, a member of one of the foundation's community support groups, or someone hearing about volunteering with the hospice for the very first time. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to help and a desire to make a meaningful contribution to palliative care in the west of Ireland.
Anyone unable to attend on the day but interested in finding out more is encouraged to visit hospice.ie or contact the foundation directly to learn about available volunteer roles.
