Pint of Science comes to two Mayo venues

IMAGINE grabbing a pint while learning about black holes, climate change, or cutting-edge medical research. That's exactly what Pint of Science delivers - a global festival where researchers swap the lab for their local pub or café, and share their latest discoveries with the public.

Over 200 speakers will present at 59 events across 17 towns and cities in Ireland from May 18 to 20, including Westport and Mulranny, in what is a global festival. Free tickets are available on pintofscience.ie.

For residents of Westport and Mulranny, three events featuring 11 researchers are slated to reach a local pub and arts centre. Attendees will have the chance to engage with experts in everything from music to nature restoration - all in a relaxed, informal setting.

The Clock Tavern is the host venue in Westport for two events: From Sea to Scanner: Science All Around Us (May 18) and From Corncrakes to Coastlines: Stories of Nature’s Comeback (May 19).

On May 20, visit Mulranny Arts Centre and hear about the science in your community, from the science of music to habitat fragmentation, and conservation.

Key highlights of the 2026 festival include increased geographic reach, with 17 towns taking part for the first time in the festival's Irish history, as well as continued focus on accessibility and inclusivity at events across the country.

Run entirely by volunteers, Pint of Science Ireland is a registered non-profit organisation supported by both public and private organisations. This year's team of 118 volunteers (108 city volunteers and 10 on the national team) includes students, scientists, and passionate science communicators, all working to make cutting-edge research accessible and fun.
