Residential permits needed to solve parking crux in Mayo county town

A SYSTEM of residential permits for people living in Newtown, Castlebar, has been suggested to resolve issues with parking in the area.

There is a long-standing agreement that they can park at the back of Brooklands.

However, there are people taking residents' parking every day of the week, Councillor Blackie Gavin told a municipal district meeting, where he asked the council to look at the situation and resolve it for the residents.

The residents include Councillor Donna Sheridan who described receiving a call from the garda station where someone reported that her car should not have been there one night.

Parking in Newtown has become a major issue, with people parking in the private spaces, she said.

The spaces needed to become a paid parking zone, she said, with the residents given permits.
