Special night of music for Mayo musician Brenda Grealis

A SPECIAL fundraising concert, A Night of Music for Brenda, will take place on Friday, May 8, in the Aisling Suite of the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport, bringing together a host of talented performers for an evening of music in support of Mayo musician Brenda Grealis.

Doors will open at 7.30, with the concert beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are priced at €15 and will be available on the door.

The event will be hosted by Annette Griffin and John Staunton and will feature a diverse line-up of performers, including The Westport Singers, Westport Junior Comhaltas, Callyanna, The Westport Children’s Choir, and Brian and Uisce. The concert promises to be a memorable night of music, community spirit, and support.

Brenda Grealis, a well-known singer and harpist, has been undergoing treatment following a diagnosis of Progressive Encephalomyelitis with Rigidity and Myoclonus (PERM), a rare and severe form of Stiff Person Syndrome. The illness has had a profound impact on her life and has brought her professional music career to an unexpected end.

She is currently receiving rehabilitation care, and significant efforts are underway to adapt her home to meet her needs and support her wish of returning home. Funds raised from this concert, along with other community-led initiatives, will go towards supporting Brenda’s ongoing care and essential home modifications.

Organisers have expressed their sincere gratitude to all the performers, hosts, and supporters who have given their time and talent to make the event possible.

“This concert is a wonderful example of the community coming together to support Brenda and her family,” a spokesperson said. “The kindness and generosity shown has been truly overwhelming.”

All are welcome to attend what promises to be a heartfelt and uplifting evening of music in a beautiful setting.
