Consultation opens on pedestrian crossing and traffic calming in Mayo town

A CAUTIOUS welcome has been given to the publication of a Section 38 public consultation notice for the pedestrian crossing in Foxford.

The long awaited notice was published in the local newspapers this past week, and details of what's proposed are also available online on the council's consultation portal.

Councillor Neil Cruise told a municipal district meeting that he 'cautiously' welcomed the publication of the notice and hoped that what it contained will be of benefit and enhance safety at the pedestrian crossing in the town.

He hadn't seen the plan before publication and cited this lack of input for local representatives as being a weakness in the system.

The improvements have been a long time coming, he added, and members of the public will be able to make submissions on what is proposed.

There are incidents at the crossing virtually every week, and he again highlighted the need for emergency signage with a lot of people turning up the one-way main street in Foxford town centre.
