Go Purple Day event in Mayo town

The Tacú Family Resource Centre, Ballinrobe will hold a special awareness raising event on Friday, May 15, at 10.30 a.m. to mark Go Purple Day 2026. The event is run in association with An Garda Síochána, Safe Ireland and Mayo Rape Crisis Centre. Go Purple Day is a joint initiative between An Garda Síochána and domestic abuse services with the aim of raising awareness about supports available to people who experience domestic abuse.

The organisers of the event are asking everyone to show your support by going purple for the day: you can wear purple attire, bake purple treats, decorate your surroundings, or illuminate your home, business, school, or meeting space in purple. Capture and share your photos and use the #GoPurpleDay.

Domestic abuse and sexual violence can have a profound impact on individuals, families and communities, and initiatives such as this help to encourage open conversations, reduce stigma and remind people that support is available.

The colour purple symbolizes love, strength, dignity, and independence – qualities of a compassionate community committed to eradicating abuse and violence against women and girls. Going purple this Friday is a powerful yet simple gesture. It shows solidarity with those experiencing domestic abuse, conveying a strong message – ‘you are not alone’ and ‘help is always available’.
