Mayo schools celebrate Europe Day
Primary school pupils across Mayo celebrated Europe Day, May 9, by exploring Europe and the European Union through age-friendly classroom activities. Europe Day marks the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration (1950), a turning point that promoted cooperation across Europe and helped lay the foundations for the European Union.
As part of a coordinated Europe Day schools programme across the Northern and Western Region, staff from the Northern and Western Regional Assembly (NWRA) have been engaging with participating schools to hear what pupils learned about Europe, the EU, and the role of the Regional Assembly in the region.
Participating schools in Mayo included Bekan National School, Social Iosa Ballyhaunis, and Cloonlyon National School.
Each participating school received an EU flag and €250 in book vouchers.
