New Mayo Peace Commissioner appointed
LOCAL resident and community advocate, Maura O’Sullivan has been appointed as a Peace Commissioner for County Mayo by Minister of State Niall Collins.
The appointment, made under Section 88 of the Courts of Justice Act 1924, authorises Ms. O’Sullivan to assist the local community with various legal and administrative tasks. They include: witness signatures on important documents; take statutory declarations and oaths (such as those needed for property transactions or affidavits); certify documents and application forms, including passport applications for children; sign certificates and orders under various Oireachtas Acts.
Maura lives in Islandeady, Castlebar, with her husband Aidan, and is the manager of their micro business, Westport Wolfhounds. As a dedicated community activist, volunteer at the Islandeady Wednesday Get-Together community group (presently acting coordinator), and member of the Islandeady Community Council, Maura has a deep-seated understanding of local issues.
“I understand that getting legal documents signed can often be inconvenient or difficult to schedule. I look forward to making these services more accessible,” she said.
“My appointment to Peace Commissioner enables me to better serve and support our local communities of Islandeady, Castlebar and the people of Mayo.”
The Office of Peace Commissioner is an honorary, voluntary position, meaning that Ms. O’Sullivan will provide these services free of charge to the public.
