Man found in intoxicated state close to Mayo railway lines is fined
A MAN who was found in an intoxicated state close to the railway lines at Castlebar Train Station was fined €150 when he appeared before Castlebar District Court.
Thomas Laurence, 25 Fr. Meehan Place, Castlebar, entered a plea of guilty to a charge Under Section 4 of the Public Order Act of being intoxicated on April 18 last.
Garda Martin Friel told the court that he was called to Castlebar Railway Station at 4.40 on the evening of April 18 last following a report of a man walking near the railway track in an intoxicated state.
“He was staggering around the place and my concern was that he was near the rail tracks and posing a danger to himself and to others,” said Garda Friel, who arrested the man and took him to Castlebar Garda Station.
The court was told the defendant had 40 previous convictions including 13 Under Section 4 of the Public Order Act.
