Mayo island walks to raise funds for cancer charities

THE 2026 Kathleen Conneely Memorial Island Walks are set to return this summer, inviting people from across County Mayo and beyond to take part in two unique fundraising events in aid of national cancer charities.

This year’s walks will take place on Clare Island on Saturday, June 20, and Inishturk on Saturday, July 4, offering participants the opportunity to experience the spectacular scenery of Clew Bay while supporting vital cancer services.

Now in its 20th year, the event has raised in excess of €300,000 for local and national charities. The 2026 beneficiary charities are the Irish Cancer Society and Pancreatic Cancer Ireland, both of which provide vital services and supports to individuals and families affected by cancer.

The annual island walks are well known for their friendly, community atmosphere and are suitable for all ages and abilities, making them ideal for families, walking groups, clubs, and anyone looking for an enjoyable and meaningful day out.

Participants can choose from a range of self-guided routes, all under 10km, and can walk at their own pace. For those who prefer, bicycles can be brought on the ferry or hired on the islands. Along the way, walkers will enjoy the unique landscapes and warm hospitality of the island communities.

Entry is by a donation of €50, or by raising a minimum of €50 in sponsorship per person. This includes return ferry travel from Roonagh Pier, as well as optional complimentary bus transfer from Castlebar and Westport.

Organisers are encouraging strong participation from across Mayo, including community groups, workplaces and sports clubs, to help make this milestone year the most successful yet. Your support can make a real difference.
